In March of 2024 I began to experience the symptoms of menopause. I tried to understand what my body and mind were going through. I found a book by author Sharon Blackie “Hagitude, Reimaging the Second of Life." As I read it, I began to discover and uncover who I would be in the second half of life, it was through the elder women archetypes as portrayed in fairy tales where my journey began. “Alchemic Ella” will be a one person show with voice memos and music that I created during my transition from one half of life to the next.

Just One Dance - 2-26-24 - Just some thoughts today…

I felt horrified at the reversal of Roe vs. Wade, which led to the creation of this song. This song is an expresson of my anger. How is it that we feel it is necessary to control the choices a woman makes over her own body, health and wellness? I feel motrified by the Madonna-Whore dichotomy in our culture. Sex, for me, is as much a natural and normal part of this existance as birth and trees and grass and the sky. For me, it has been a way to center and root myself in pleasure. Having a healthy sex life has helped to bring me through some of the most dark and depresssive periods in my life. How have we come to make it about a pleasure we only offer as a gift to men? How can we shift the culture to sex as an offering to someone for their natural human earthly existence. Who knows, maybe tomorrow my thoughts will change but for today, this is how I feel.
