"The Image" brainstorm doc

Mark

I like what you saying here. And I like how each person represents a feeling or a person going thru a sort of struggle or situation can be represented by a chord.

This is the chord progression I have so far:

Ddim - Fm - A#maj - Cm (chords)

D.      - C.  - A#       - G#  (bass notes)

Mark?

I really like the C minor chord with G# bass note, because the Cminor has a G and it makes it really dissonant.

I will try replacing the Ddim with Dm today, and I’ll try out the Fm to Cm repeated then going to Ddim.

Very cool

Lisa

There’s something attractive to me about this image.  I can imagine the atmosphere.  I imagine a chord representing each of the figures.  The one in the middle well lit standing tall seems loving and hopeful but alone (Major), the one with their hand on their face seems distraught, like they’ve given up.    The one to the left of the one standing tall in the middle seems ready to go tackle whatever it is that they are facing.  The one on the far right seems unsure what to do next.  It’s almost as if they are all the different people in the world now and how they are facing the pandemic.  The black lines just represents all of their various forms of brokenness, how they seem to have been glued back together but you can’t really hide that they were broken once.

The chords that come to me first are the Fm to Cm repeatedly then down to the Ddim.  What chord could represent the loving hopeful one in the center?

Maybe the Ddim would sometimes be a Dmin instead?  Just a thought

Possible Lyrics…

Oh no, the blood

You’re bleeding all over me

How much more do you have

More than one can take

An army of blood

More than two can shake.

May 20, 2020 Personas

It could be one person...

Going thru different thoughts and emotions

Maybe like in “Playground” this person has many sides, secret personas that are hidden from the world.

(Public Persona) The standing figure could be the one everybody knows, the one he/she lets people see. All caring and loving, constantly giving and sharing.

(Private Persona 1) The figure with hands over face could be the sad, exhausted and distraught persona, the one with nothing left to give, cashed out. Having no love from the ones he/she gives so much to everyday.

(Private Persona 2) The figure on the left is interesting, this is the one that plays in “the playground”. No one knows this persona. Only those he/she lets in, and even then he/she might kick them out in a moments notice with no qualms of doing so, no guilt. No love just pleasure seeking. Mischievous and curious, explorer of the odd, abnormal, rejected behaviors of the morally conscious.

(Private Persona 3) The figure on his/her knees….Im not sure about this one. I keep thinking it looks like the sad figure but only sadder, even suicidal. But that doesn’t flow with the idea of each figure being an individual persona.

Maybe sad figure and suicidal figure are similar, just that the suicidal is more extreme.

Any ideas?

Lisa

5/21/202 L:  I think these ideas are absolutely lovely.  (Hit a little close to home for me, I don’t know about you?)  I feel like people will relate  to this idea because we all struggle with our different personas at times right?  How do you think it ends?  Do we make peace with ourselves?  Do we accept what we can’t change?  Do we change what we can?  Do we give up and quit trying to wrestle with them?

7-9-2020

Art, in the form of music; face paint, costume, and imagery is my way of confronting and coping mostly with fear, anger,  temptation and sensuality in my  life.  Everyday normally I’m painfully shy.  When I put on face paint and create a costume, I can feel more comfortable to express the inner ideas that I would never be able to without.  It would be very unlike me to ask someone to collaborate, so when Mark Richardson, (aka @sunroot.songs), approached me on the slack group provided by Soundfly, I was happy to except, but a little nervous.   He wanted to connect with another musician while social distancing, he lives in Texas and I in Wisconsin,  and he really wanted to work on expanding his scale and chord vocabulary.  I just enjoy meeting new people and having experiences together.  At first, he sent me some of his finished tracks and asked if I would add to them but his tracks were already beautiful so I didn’t want to touch them.  We needed a common starting point.  Since imagery is inspiring for me, I found this image and asked if he would like to start by brainstorming around the emotions and ideas that it invoked.  We opened a google doc and dropped the image in then began to write down what went through our minds as we looked at it.  Using the thoughts we had shared on the document we began the creative process.  First with a locrian scale and chord progression, then a synth, next a distorted guitars, piano, a foley sample from Tent City and rhythm.  We met virtually, via Team-viewer and Audio Movers to simultaneously listen to and make decisions together about what we recorded in the the DAW.  It was an awesome experience, I had never collaborated in this way.   If you would like to know more about the creation process,  the link to “The Image” is in my Bio.  Have you had a similar experience when collaborating?  Do you ever collaborate remotely?  How do you make creative decisions together?
